How to care for your new chopping board
Following the steps below will fully nourish and protect your boards.
1. Wash your chopping board in warm soapy water, try not to use too concentrated soap as this removes the natural oils.
2. Rinse thoroughly and dry it with a soft cloth immediately.
3. Re-coat the board with mineral oil. Do this by pouring a generous amount onto the surface then rub the oil into the board with a clean soft cloth, until every surface has been fully covered.
4. Allow mineral oil to soak in for at least 6 hours in a warm environment. Remove excess oil using a clean cloth.
5. Using the conditioning wax, buff the wax into the surface using a clean soft cloth in small circular motions until fully coated.
6. Taking a fresh cloth, buff the board until a brilliant shine.
7. Enjoy your Chopping Board!
Key points:
- Always hand wash only – never submerge in water.
- Never put a wooden board in the dishwasher.
- Wood being a natural product, expands and contracts due to moisture. This will cause boards to warp or cracked if moisture change is excessive.
- Avoid using vegetable or nut-based oil on your chopping board as this will turn rancid.
- Wooden boards can be refurbished back to new condition if sanded correctly and conditioner is applied. This can be completed by JJ Designs, get in contact.
